Amebic colitis complicated by multiple amebomas.

P M Davis.

Abstract

When treating native patients, it is important to differentiate between ameboma and rectal or colonic carcinoma. Prompt recognition of ameboma will avoid unnecessary surgery for presumed malignancy. Medical treatment with metronidazole and diloxamide furate will produce rapid regression of the lesions and will prevent the possibility of remote complications and perforations which, untreated, could be fatal.
