Infections in the elderly.

J R Lundon.

Abstract

The immune response is altered in the elderly and others who may be debilitated or malnourished. This will alter response to infection, as will the presence of diseases like diabetes, or chemotherapy for cancer. Hospital acquired infections are particularly prevalent in the elderly, who are more likely to spend time in such institutions. Routs of infection and methods of prevention are discussed.
