Management of stable angina pectoris.

P H Tanser.

Abstract

A state of stable angina pectoris may persist for many years and can usually be managed medically by the family physician. Once contributing or alternate diagnoses have been dealt with, most patients will be rendered either pain-free or greatly improved by use of nitrate and/or β-adrenoreceptor blockade. A few patients will not be sufficiently improved by medical therapy. These should be considered for aortocoronary saphenous vein bypass surgery.Risk factor modification and psychological support are also managed by the family physician in most instances.
