Abstract
We report the 2 and 6 months evaluations of a health education course for reduced groups of hypertensive patients who were poorly controlled. The course was delivered to 47 patients, and it consisted of 3 informative-participative sessions. A control group of 51 hypertensive patients comparable to the interventional group was selected. The degree of knowledge and the compliance of the patients in the interventional group were evaluated at the beginning and the end of the course by means of previously validated tests. The blood pressure values before the course and 2 and 6 months after it were measured in both groups. In the interventional group a significant improvement was found after 2 months (p less than 0.001) in the blood pressure levels, both systolic and diastolic, as compared with the initial values. The improvement was maintained after 6 months. In the control group, significant changes were not found after 2 months, but there was an improvement at 6 months (p less than 0.002).Entities:
