Abstract
Thymic carcinoid tumors belong to the group of mediastinal tumors, but are quite rare and usually carry a very poor prognosis. This report illustrates a case in which a thymic carcinoid tumor that had led to cavernous sinus syndrome was treated successfully. This is the first case report of a thymic carcinoid to metastasize to the cavernous sinus.Entities:

Figure 1Chest x-ray shows a well-delineated mass (arrow) in the right middle mediastinum.
Figure 2A contrast-enhanced CT shows an anterior mediastinal mass (M) containing hypodense areas caused by necrosis. Note the right paratracheal and aorticopulmonary lymph nodes (arrows).
Figure 3The histopathological examination confirmed that the lesion represented a thymic carcinoid (Hematoxylin & Eosin stain x 100).
Figure 4Gadolinium-enhanced T1-weighted MRI showed a hyperintense, metastatic mass (m) in the suprasellar region. The mass extended through the left cavernous sinus (white arrow) and extends towards the back through the dorsum and clivus (black arrow).
