Pregnancy and the working mother.

R F Maudsley.

Abstract

Many women of childbearing age are in the workforce. Pregnant women wishing to continue working often seek the advice of their physician. The advice should be based on an understanding of the physiological changes of pregnancy and current information about industrial hazards. A thorough review and periodic reassessment of the woman's job, including exposure to physical or chemical hazards, is necessary. Certain pregnancy complications may require cessation of work. Collaboration with other health professionals may prove useful in identifying the worker's special needs in order to ensure safety for mother and child.
