Screening for glaucoma in family practice.

J D Morin.

Abstract

Glaucoma is the most common cause of preventable blindness in the western world. Vision can be preserved by early diagnosis and early treatment. The technique of Schiotz tonometry is simple and should be part of a general physical examination. Optic disc cupping can be discovered by ophthalmoscopy. The features of glaucomatous optic disc cupping are described so that the primary care physician can easily make the diagnosis of glaucoma.
