The role of the family physician in the hospital.

S A Turgeon.

Abstract

The trend amongst urban family physicians away from hospital practice is a major threat to the family physician's role in the health care system. Continuity and comprehensiveness in patient care are the basis for a family physician's involvement in hospital care. The family physician brings the valuable perspective of the generalist to the specialized hospital environment and benefits from the educational stimulus that environment provides.
