Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases are the most common cause of death among the elderly in the Western world. Resveratrol (3,5,4'-trihydroxystilbene) is a plant-derived polyphenol that was shown to exert diverse anti-aging activity mimicking some of the molecular and functional effects of caloric restriction. This mini-review focuses on the molecular and cellular mechanisms activated by resveratrol in the vascular system, and explores the links between its anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects, which could be exploited for the prevention or amelioration of vascular aging in the elderly.Entities:
