Breast imaging and intervention in the overweight and obese patient.

Stamatia Destounis1, Mary Newell, Renee Pinsky.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: This article comments on the challenges and coping mechanisms for evaluating overweight and obese patients with breast imaging and diagnostic techniques. With the prevalence of obesity in society, the obstacles that arise regarding patients' adherence to screening guidelines are important to address.
CONCLUSION: This article discusses social factors and physical limitations that influence these patients' desires and ability to seek health care, specifically breast care and the problems that arise during imaging and interventional procedures.
