Platelet disorders: diagnosis and management.

E L Yeo.

Abstract

Platelet disorders are associated with a significant risk of clinical bleeding. These disorders require an evaluation that includes a platelet count, determination of bleeding time, bone-marrow evaluation, and laboratory platelet tests to establish the underlying pathophysiologic process. The physician who understands these processes can correctly interpret laboratory results and choose the most appropriate treatment option.
