Abstract
HTLV-1, or human T-lymphotropic virus type 1, is a retrovirus causing disease in humans. Responsible for adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma, it is the first documented viral-induced neoplasia in humans. This same virus has recently been implicated in a progressive neurological disorder, and because it is transmissible by blood transfusion, it represents a major problem in blood banking. The relationship of this virus to other newly discovered retroviruses is discussed.Entities:
