Support services in genetics.

K Boucher, A Neidhardt, B Youson.

Abstract

For the patient with a genetic disease, the family physician can play a key role in maximizing patient care. This starts with discussion between the physician and the patient to identify the patient's needs. Through referrals to community and medical support services, the family physician can provide his patient with extensive information to meet those needs. By providing information to prepare patients for referrals, following up on those referrals with the patient and the referred service, the family physician can provide high-quality comprehensive care for the patient.
