Drug resistance trends in Mycobacterium tuberculosis: Blackburn 1985-89.

L P Ormerod1, J M Harrison, P A Wright.

Abstract

Drug resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis fell from 15.2% in 1980-1984 to 6.5% in 1985-89 in the Indian subcontinent (ISC) ethnic group and remained low in the white ethnic group. Resistance to isoniazid, which is of particular clinical significance, fell from 6.1% in 1980-84 to 2.7% in 1985-1989 in the ISC group. Factors which may affect this trend to reduction are discussed.
