Assessment and management of the violent patient.

H Fisher.

Abstract

The author reviews various techniques for evaluating the relative risk of violent behaviour. Recognition of relevant patient-related factors is explored. Management techniques are presented to help the physician avert and deal with impending or manifestly violent behaviour. Specific management techniques include talking to the patient, pharmacological agents, and pharmacological restraint.
