Fever in Childhood: Part 1: diagnosis and management.

A K Leung, W L Robson.

Abstract

Viral infections account for the majority of fevers in children. Occasionally, fever heralds a serious illness. The younger the child, the greater the likelihood of bacteremia. A careful clinical assessment will identify most serious illness. Clinical assessment can suggest the need for laboratory tests. If possible, the underlying cause of the fever should be treated.
