BACKGROUND: To investigate the CYP1A1 gene Ile-Val and Msp1 polymorphisms and theirs relationship with susceptibility of lung cancer in Sichuan population. METHODS: Ile-Val and Msp1 polymorphisms of CYP1A1 were detected in 82 cases of lung cancer and 91 cases of other diseases by PCR-RFLP and ASA-PCR. RESULTS: The frequencies of 7th exon polymorphisms in cancer group and control group were statistically significant different ( P < 0.05), the distribution value of Ile/Val and Val/Val genotype in cancer group was significantly higher than that in control group. Logistic regression analysis showed that the risk of Ile/Val and Val/Val to lung cancer was 1.969 and 3.150 times respectively to Ile/Ile genotype. Considering the risk factor of smoking, the risk of lung cancer in individuals with Ile/Val or Val/Val genotypes was 3.059 times of others with Ile/Ile genotype. However, in nonsmoking group OR was 1.678 ( P > 0.05). There was no significant correlation between Msp1 polymorphism and lung cancer susceptibility. CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that Ile/Val and Val/Val genotypes are related to the susceptibility of lung cancer in smoking subject, they might be one of the risk factors of lung cancer. The results do not show that polymorphism of Msp1 is associated with susceptibility of lung cancer.
