[The organization of the cortex in ciliates: an example of inheriting an acquired trait].

Observations and experiments concerning morphology, morphogenesis and regeneration of ciliates impose the conclusion that the cortex plays a determining role in the arrangement of kinetics and that its organization is not commanded by the genome but behaves as an acquired hereditary character.
