Abstract
Desipramine, a monoamine reuptake inhibitor, was used to stimulate release of growth hormone (GH) in 29 DSM-III major depressives and in 10 healthy controls. Eighteen of the depressives showed a blunted response. The GH-stimulation test was unable to distinguish endogenous from non-endogenous patients. The 13 dexamethasone non-suppressors were more likely to have a blunted GH response than the 14 suppressors. The results indicate that at least a subset of non-endogenous depressives have significant neuroendocrine abnormality.Entities:
