Abstract
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder affecting 6-9% of women in reproductive age. It is characterized by hyperandrogenism, oligo- or anovulation and infertility PCOS is associated with important cardiovascular risk factors including: obesity dyslipidemia, systemic inflammation and endothelial dysfunction. Statins are well-tested medications reducing a broad range of cardiovascular risk factors. The primary mode of action of statins is inhibition of HMG-Co A reductase, a rate-limiting step of cholesterol synthesis. In recent randomized studies in PCOS women, statins have decreased testosterone level, improved menstrual cycle regularity and lipid profile.Entities:
