Dilated cardiomyopathy and heart failure in children.

Daphne T Hsu1, Charles E Canter.

Abstract

This article describes the causes and outcomes of dilated cardiomyopathy in children. Genetic, infectious, metabolic, and acquired causes of dilated cardiomyopathy are discussed. The predictors for better and worse outcomes are reviewed. Guidelines for the use of medical and surgical therapies to treat heart failure in children are summarized.
