Abstract
AIMS: In March 2008 the New South Wales judiciary restricted pub closing times to 3 a.m., and later 3.30 a.m., in the central business district (CBD) of Newcastle, Australia. We sought to determine whether the restriction reduced the incidence of assault.Entities:

Incidence rate ratios are adjusted to take into account the variation by month of the year (seasonal effect) and time since January 2001 (secular trend) and therefore they are not necessarily the same as those estimated by division of crude numbers within the table.
For area × time interaction term in negative binomial regression model.
CBD: central business district; CI: confidence interval.
