Resection of a giant esophageal fibrovascular polyp.

Matthias Peltz1, Aaron S Estrera.

Abstract

Fibrovascular polyps of the esophagus are rare benign neoplasms of the esophagus. They frequently reach giant proportions before patients develop symptoms and a diagnosis is made. Endoscopic or surgical excision is the treatment of choice. We report a case of a giant fibrovascular polyp in a 79-year-old man that was detected incidentally. The mass was resected through a left neck approach. The patient remains symptom- and recurrence-free after a 2-year follow-up. 2010 The Society of Thoracic Surgeons. Published by Elsevier Inc.
