Abstract

The total number of 253 yersiniosis cases were reported in 2008 in Poland. The incidence rate was 0.66 per 100,000 population. In this year 214 cases of enteric yersiniosis and 39 cases of extraintestinal yersiniosis were notified. About 75% of patients were hospitalized. There were 2 reported deaths probably linked to yersiniosis. The most frequent clinical manifestations of intestinal yersiniosis were diarrhea (88% of cases), high temperature (79%), abdominal pain (41%) and vomits (30%). Out of 39 extraintestinal cases ofyersiniosis 26 (about 67%) patients had acute arthritis symptoms from osteoarticular system. In 2008 there were no reported outbreaks ofyersiniosis. The serotype was determined for 112 isolated strains of Yersinia enterocolitica. Most of them were Y. enterocolitica serotype O3 but there were also 22 cases caused by Y. enterocolitica serotype O8.
