Case report 666. Bipartite medial sesamoid below the head of the first metatarsal, a developmental variant.

A K Walling1, J A Ogden.

Abstract

A specimen of a bipartite sesamoid bone revealed anatomic cartilaginous continuity in the presence of radiographic osseous discontinuity. Hyaline cartilage present between the two ossific foci strongly supported the bipartite ossification process as a developmental variation.
