Abstract
A heterotopic ossification is a non-neoplastic bone formation located in the soft tissues (so-called myositis ossificans). Important aspects of this condition, which is not uncommon after trauma or surgical procedures, are discussed from the trauma surgeon's viewpoint. The results of treatment of heterotopic ossifications are frequently unsatisfactory. Therefore, the importance of preventive measures is emphasized.Entities:
