Abstract
Endogenous chemical mediators play seminal roles in the initiation, persistence, and resolution of inflammation. Recent studies have revealed parallels between inflammatory mediators and mechanisms common to oral and systemic diseases. These relationships imply that novel therapeutics that profoundly modulate inflammatory mediators may improve clinical outcomes.
