Complementary and alternative medicine practices to alleviate pain in the elderly.

Caren McHenry Martin.

Abstract

The high prevalence of pain in the elderly, combined with the risk of side effects of many pain medications for older patients, often has both patient and practitioner looking to alternative strategies to manage pain. Patients are increasingly using forms of complementary and alternative medicine--specifically, chiropractic care and acupuncture--to better manage their pain.
