Musculoskeletal ultrasound: evaluation of ankle tendons and ligaments.

Sandra J Allison1, Levon N Nazarian.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: Ultrasound is well-established as a safe, efficient, and cost-effective method to evaluate superficial structures about the ankle. The purpose of this video article is to review the anatomy, scanning techniques, and sonographic appearance of the tendons and ligaments of the ankle.
CONCLUSION: Ultrasound is well-suited for imaging the tendons and ligaments of the ankle. Knowledge of anatomy and bony landmarks is essential for scanning the ankle accurately and efficiently.
