Adult epiglottitis: a case presentation and literature overview.

M Flotre, M O'Grady.

Abstract

Adult epiglottitis is probably more common than is recognized. The principles of management are the same for both adults and children: adequate control of the airway and the use of appropriate antimicrobial agents (with special consideration given to second- and third-generation cephalosporins). Chemoprophylaxis, with rifampicin, should be considered for all exposed families with children in the household who are younger than four years.
