Patients and students: an attitudinal survey.

I M George.

Abstract

Sixty-eight patients who had been seen by a medical student as the major person in attendance at an office visit in an academic Family Practice Unit were questioned by a self-administered questionnaire about their attitudes to medical students. Most expressed satisfaction, though a significant minority were unhappy. Most identified fragmentation of the doctor-patient relationship as their main concern. Further studies of patients' reactions to academic Family Practice Units are necessary.
