Abstract
Abortion in the adolescent is a major health problem in Canada today. The reasons for its occurrence are not well understood. The medical management of an abortion in the adolescent is similar to that in the adult, but the psychosocial aspects of caring for the adolescent seeking an abortion are unique and challenging. A systematic approach which emphasizes empathy, gentleness and a non-judgemental attitude are the basic principles for good care. Efforts to prevent unwanted and unplanned pregnancies should be pursued with vigor on a multi-disciplinary basis.Year: 1975 PMID: 20469174 PMCID: PMC2274523
