Common questions about the common cold.

W W Rosser.

Abstract

This article reviews current literature on the subject of the common cold. Rhinovirus infections are not prevented by any vaccine available today. Preventing transmission of nasal or conjunctival secretions by hands, non-porous surfaces or synthetic fibres may reduce the spread of colds. Doses of between four and six grams of vitamin C for the first three days of a cold may reduce its symptoms, but as long as vitamin C intake is adequate, long-term prophylaxis is not indicated.
