Spectinomycin hydrochloride in the treatment of acute gonorrhea in males.

The authors treated 217 cases (males) of acute gonorrheal urethritis with a two gram dose of intramuscular spectinomycin hydrochloride and report a bacteriological cure rate of 100 percent and a clinical cure rate of 99 percent. They consider this drug to be one of the most effective weapons in the treatment of acute gonorrhea. This is the first publication anywhere in the world of a clinical trial for spectinomycin hydrochloride.
