The usefulness of fenfluramine in treating simple obesity.

J P Sedgwick.

Abstract

Obesity represents a major problem in the western world today. Dietary restriction continues to play a major part in the treatment and management of this condition, and its importance lies not only in obtaining a weight loss but in maintaining the new weight once it is arrived at. Thus the total aim is the re-education of the individual's eating habits.Recently, research work has been conducted on a new drug called fenfluramine which does not produce sympathomimetic side effects, but nevertheless produces an excellent effect for the reduction of weight both by anorectic activity and peripheral metabolic activity.
