Abstract
We studied the influence of diabetes mellitus on cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality among NIPPON DATA, which was a cohort study of representative general Japanese. The hazard ratios (HRs) of CVD mortality and coronary heart disease mortality were almost 2 folds. These tendencies of CVD risk increase were also found among participants below the thresholds of diabetes mellitus. Among diabetic participants, prevalence of other metabolic risk factors was much higher than the nondiabetic participants. The CVD mortality of metabolic syndrome with diabetes is higher than those of metabolic syndrome without diabetes (HR, 3.67 vs 1.61). These data indicated that diabetes mellitus plays an important role among metabolic syndrome. Thus, it is very important to stop the progression of diabetic status to prevent CVD.Entities:
