Abstract
The coccidian Eimeria meleagridis Tyzzer, an apicomplexan parasite of the turkey, was long believed to be innocuous, but recent research suggests that it may be of greater economic importance than previously realised. Hitherto, the date of publication of both the name and the original species description has invariably been wrongly cited as 1927, an error first committed by the describer himself and perpetuated ever since. In fact, the name as published in 1927 was a nomen nudum, being unaccompanied by any indication or description. Tyzzer's first valid publication of the name with a description was two years later. Hence the correct formal authorship attribution is Eimeria meleagridis Tyzzer, 1929.Entities:
