Abstract
Obese patients often may demonstrate an acquired prolonged QTc interval due to alteration in cardiac physiology, electrolyte disturbances, and/or medication use. Intraoperatively, bariatric surgery may further contribute additional cardiac stressors to obese patients with long QT syndrome (LQTS). We present a case report of an obese woman with LQTS who underwent laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery and sustained an intraoperative cardiac arrest. We discuss identification, prevention, and treatment strategies for LQTS in the bariatric surgery patient.Entities:
