Abstract

That adult humans possess active brown adipose tissue potentially leads to a paradigm shift in the understanding of human metabolism and of obesity. Adaptive adrenergic thermogenesis in humans represents brown adipose tissue activity, the absence of which may contribute to middle-age obesity. 2010 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
