Diseases mimicking onychomycosis.

Miguel Angel José Allevato1.

Abstract

The diagnosis of onychodystrophy has increased in dermatology consultation. This could be due to its esthetic effect, pain or disability, physician awareness for detecting the disease in the context of dermatologic or systemic diseases, or a greater incidence. One of the first differential diagnoses that should be considered when an onychodystrophic nail is observed is onychomycosis, which is the cause in 50% of cases. Copyright 2010.
