(Re)visiting academic advising.

Elizabeth Harrison1.

Abstract

The purpose of academic advising is to guide students in developing educational goals that will enable them to achieve their life aspirations. Given its importance, academic advising has received little attention in nursing literature. The author traces the history of academic advising, identifies the roles and characteristics of an effective advisor, and suggests a course of action that will enable faculty to improve their advising.
