Abstract
Nonunions of fractures occur infrequently and can be multifactorial. Some predisposing factors include fracture instability, poor vascularity and inadequate fracture reduction. The role of metabolic bone disease and endocrine abnormalities in nonunions is often overlooked. This article reports a case of a tibial nonunion associated with vitamin D deficiency. The diagnosis and treatment of the nonunion and endocrine abnormality is discussed. This case illustrates the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in this increasingly common endocrine condition.Entities:
