Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To measure cortisol, adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH)-stimulated cortisol and ACTH values in the newborn intensive care unit-admitted newborn infants within 48 h before surgery and to describe the relationship of these values to measures of clinical illness before and after surgery. Comparison between Group 1 and Group 2
Figure 1Delta SNAP scores vs. pre-surgery cortisol values. There was no significant correlation between delta SNAP and baseline cortisol concentrations (dashed line, open circle) (ρ=-0.2, P=0.4) and no significant correlation between delta SNAP and ACTH-stimulated cortisol concentrations (solid line, solid triangle) (ρ=-0.3, P=0.2). One ACTH-stimulated cortisol value not shown (103 mcg/dl) but was included in analysis. ρ, rho; Delta SNAP, Post-surgery SNAP score minus pre-surgery SNAP score.
