Thoracic empyema after pneumonectomy: intrathoracic application of vacuum-assisted closure therapy.

Christian Renner1, Susanne Reschke, Wolfgang Richter.

Abstract

We report the use of vacuum-assisted closure (V.A.C. Therapy, KCI Medical, Wiesbaden, Germany) to treat an intrathoracic empyema that occurred after resection of the right lung. Successful closure of the thoracic cavity was achieved with an omental plombage. 2010 The Society of Thoracic Surgeons. Published by Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
