Effect of action-oriented communication training on nurses' communication self-efficacy.

Miscommunication poses a significant threat to the safety of hospitalized patients, but nurses often lack the communication confidence (self-efficacy) needed to represent their views regarding patient situations. Findings of this study suggest training programs are needed to help nurses develop confident, assertive communication skills.
