Abstract
The development of Clostridium difficile infection in cirrhosis is predictive of death, independent of severity of liver disease. The main risk factors are the use of antibiotics and proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs). This is further evidence that supports the wise and cautious use of antibiotics in cirrhosis and suggests avoiding the use of PPIs in these patients except for indications of proven benefit.Entities:
