Energy homoeostasis: The roles of adipose tissue-derived hormones, peptide YY and Ghrelin.

Jocelin Hall1, Rachel Roberts, Niral Vora.

Abstract

This review discusses the physiology of the hormones leptin, adiponectin, resistin, peptide YY, and ghrelin and how each of these contributes to energy homoeostasis, weight regulation, and the pathogenesis of obesity. The relationship these hormones have with insulin and insulin resistance is also discussed, and the potential therapeutic use of each of these hormones is also considered. 2009 S. Karger AG, Basel.
