Abstract
Abnormalities of platelet number and function are the most common coagulation disorders seen among ICU patients. This article reviews the most frequent causes of thrombocytopenia by providing an overview of the following most common mechanisms: impaired production; sequestration; dilution; and destruction. Guidelines for treating thrombocytopenia and platelet dysfunction are also provided.Entities:
