Abstract
The purpose of the present work is to report the effects shown by the uleine-rich fraction extracted from the barks of Himatanthus lancifolius (Muell. Arg.) Woodson (Apocynaceae) on human peripheral blood mononuclear cells in which we were able to inhibit the proliferation of phytohemagglutinin-stimulated lymphocytes by blocking their transformation into blast-dividing cells. Furthermore, it inhibited the proliferation of Daudi and Reh cells, two leukemic cell lines of lymphoid origin. The present study widens the biological applications of H. lancifolius' alkaloids to include its possible use as a modulator of the immune system. Georg Thieme Verlag KG Stuttgart. New York.Entities:
