Superparamagnetic submicro-megranates: Fe(3)O(4) nanoparticles coated with highly cross-linked organic/inorganic hybrids.

Abstract

A superparamagnetic pomegranate-like core@shell structure with Fe(3)O(4)@SiO(2) nanoparticles as cores and cross-linked PZS as shells was fabricated. The Fe(3)O(4)@SiO(2)@PZS hybrid composite shows exellent solvent resistance and water dispersion, allowing potentially great biocompatibility and possible tailored surface chemistry for applications in biotechnology.
